You're Taking Us Where?

A couple of weeks ago, we got one of those little postcards in the mail from the vet's office.  It was a reminder that Bunny and Lilac were both due for some booster shots and a yearly check.  So, today was the day I loaded them up and took them in.  From the beginning, I should have known how it would go when I found myself taking Blueberry along so she wouldn't be disappointed about being left at home while Bunny and Lilac got to go somewhere.  I tried talking her out of it, but she was sure it was going to be some grand adventure.  On our way over, I believe the conversation was something that would prove as another hint to me.

Lilac:  Where are you taking me?  Why do I have to go?

Blueberry:  Where are we going?  I can't believe you didn't want to take me!

Bunny:  Who cares where we're going?  I just want them to pet me!

Me:  We're just taking a little trip to the vet.  It's no big deal and it will be over in no time.

Lilac:  The vet?!  You interrupted a perfectly good nap for a trip to the torture chamber?  Take me home this minute!

Blueberry:  The vet?!  It smells funny in there!

Bunny:  The vet?!  Alright!  They love petting me in there!

Me:  They only need to see Bunny and Lilac.  Blueberry, you're staying in the van.

Lilac:  I'll stay in the van!

Blueberry:  I never get to go anywhere!

Bunny:  Alright!  I'm going in!

Lilac:  You puppy!  It's the VET!  Do you know what they do to dogs in there?

Bunny:  They love to pet me and there's a cat buffet in the back!  They always forget to give me my cat, but I'm sure they'll remember this time!
We arrived and I took Bunny in with me first.  I decided to let Lilac rest in the van since standing for a long time is hard for her and I knew she wouldn't relax and lay down on a dog bed.  Bunny was weighed and then we were escorted into the dog room.  She was very concerned by the sound of a crying dog and cat on the other side of the door.
Then, Dr. Sherry came in and we talked a little bit about the girls.  She gave Bunny the obligatory pets and fussed over her cuteness.  Soon they led her into the back to the elevator table to do the exam.  One thing I really like about our vet's office is that they always let me go in the back with the dogs.  It's never a secret about what's going on back there.  They are also very greyhound-savvy and the head vet there was in charge of the animals at the local zoo for a long time.  It's nice to know they're in good hands.
Of course, when it was over, Bunny waited expectantly for her treat from the cat buffet, but she walked out gracefully when no cats were offered yet again.  All in all, even though she slipped on the table a little, she was still as happy when we left as when we went in.
After I took Bunny out to the car, it was Lilac's turn.  I didn't take any pictures of Lilac in there because I had to hold on to her.  The floors are a bit slick and I worry about her falling.  She also gets tired quickly these days and needs a bit of help to stand up, so I was holding on to her.  In true grand dame style, she had to leave an editorial comment by pooping on the floor as I paid for their services for the day.  Why she felt I needed that little stroke of embarrassment, I don't know, but it seems to be her trend of visiting the vet's office.  At least they are very understanding about such things there!

The best part is that both of them are very healthy girls.  There were no problems with either of them and they're both caught up on booster shots.  They also both got pedicures and a clean bill of health.  Fortunately, we also returned home without any cats!

  5. It's nice that a trip to the vet doesn't have to a traumatic experience. My kids don't like it, but a yummy treat makes up for it.

  6. I also think the "cat buffet" is furry hilarious! (And Lilac - what a profound statement - we doggies know how to "talk", don't we heheh!). What good pups you were though and now you're ready for another healthy year ahead! Brava!

  8. That cat buffet never seems to deliver. Glad you're so relaxed after taking the three of them down there. I always need a stiff drink to calm my nerves when I come back - the boyz always widdle on their way out! How embarassing .

  9. Glad your girls received a clean bill of health. =)

Just ONCE I'd love to have a dog that viewed the vet's office as Bunny does. Once inside the exam room, poor little Sophie would press her nose into the crack between the door and the door jamb. You could tell she just knew she could squeeze through the space and escape! Maybe they should have offered her something from the cat buffet; it probably would have calmed her right down!

  11. Marge is more like Lilac at the vet than Bunny, though she hasn't pulled any pooping-on-the-floor pranks yet. Glad everyone is healthy!

    Cat buffet, snerk.

Nice to read your story! Beth loveslovesloves the vet's office -- her attitude toward petting is pretty much like Bunny's. Everyone there adores her too. She catches sight of the vet and starts wagging her tail (every exam starts with him kneeling down and loving her up!). Sometimes I just need to take her by for a quick weigh-in and to say hello -- it's conveniently right across the street from the dog park.

  13. Oh Bunny is the Most Brave thing ever! And Lilac, well, she obviously is not worried about letting you know how she feels about the whole thing. Brudder Ranger HATES the V-E-T. He totally flips out. I don't luvs it but I just puts on a brave face and gets through it. I don't think they have a cat buffet where I go. I should ask next time cuz maybe they're holdin' out on me.

  14. That was so cute. I guess vet visits have similarities, but what is an elevator table? I guess hydraulics or something. Most importantly: Good results :) Very happy for the girls. M takes us all in at the same time. She likes to make a dramatic entrance.

Thanks for wagging over to say hi. I'm a bit behind on responding to my blog pals. You were amazing at the vet. Those electric tables are funny. I don't get it but I always get lots of cookies. Glad u are nice and healthy. No more postcards for a while.

  18. It's amazing how different the personalities of dogs from one family can be! Cat buffet - I love it!

Our dogs both think that the vet's office is the greatest place on Earth. The hardest part is controlling them as we arrive because they're SO excited. We get whisked into an exam room very fast when R is with us because he expresses his excitement in high pitched barking while in the waiting room. Can you say embarrassing???

  21. Uh oh. Pooping at the vet. Not cool. It is great that you get to go in the back room. My humans always go in the examination room with me, but not always to the back room. Well, except for when I need x-rays because they need master to get me on the table. Hehehe.

Glad everybody checked out OK. That cat buffet looked great. Maybe you just need a reservation to enjoy it.
