We just wanted to wish everyone participating in the Race for the Cure well today! We registered this year with all intentions of participating, but a long, stressful week and a weather forecast of only forty degrees at race time have made us reconsider. We'll still be there in spirit, like the cold-weather cowards we are!
For people who don't know what the Race for the Cure is, it's an event that was started here in our area twenty five years ago in honor of Susan G. Komen by her sister as a fundraiser to help find a cure for breast cancer. My mom is a breast cancer survivor, so I know how important this event is. The money raised by the Komen Foundation has gone a long way towards helping to find a cure and helping women (and sometimes men, too) cope with the battle against the disease. Bunny and I had planned to walk today, but we'll still be cheering my younger sister on as she runs in our local 5K.
For all the participants, we're cheering for you and thankful for your contributions. To the cancer survivors out there, we celebrate your lives! Hopefully one day there will be a cure for this devastating disease.
To answer the questions about where Bunny's collar came from, it's from Hounds 4 A Cause. They have other things besides collars for sale. I know that there are a few other sites who carry some pink ribbon merchandise for dogs, too.
We'd also like to say that we're participating in the first Pet Hop Blogging Roll today. Hopefully the link worked and shows on the post when this goes up on the blog! Thanks to the blogs who started this fun event. If you're interested, click on the link in our sidebar and it will take you to Life With Dogs where they explain the event in detail! Have fun finding some new blogs!

ReplyDeleteBunny looks so very gorgeous in her collar. I'm sorry it was too cold to pawticipate in it but isn't it a good feeling to know that so many are out there all together to help raise moneys for this very great cause? My dad's mom went to Heaven about 24 years ago cuz of that terrible sickness. But thanks to things like this, there's lots of women - like you - who have gotten better cuz of all the advances that have been made since then.
