Well, Phooey On Roanoke Days!

Bunny here, with a short post about Roanoke Days.

I was all excited when Mom got home.  All day I'd been listening to the sounds of the festival getting ready in front of our house.  I knew we were going for our walk and I'd get to see all the excitement.  It's been a bit hot, so Mom said we'd wait until Dad got home and then walk through when the weather started to cool off a little.

After dinner, Mom grabbed my harness and we headed out.  As soon as we started to walk, people started to want to pet me and  talk to me.  It was glorious.  I was thinking how great this festival is right outside my front door.

Then, as we walked along, a police officer came up and said dogs weren't allowed.  What?  Dogs have been there every year, and it's my house!  Mom said it's ridiculous and she's going to find somebody to discuss it with.  Hmph!  If I could have, I'd have pooped right there on the street and left it.  I mean, we have to put up with their stupid stage lights glaring through our windows all night from Wednesday until Sunday, people block our house so we can barely get in and out, we can't drive on our street to get anywhere, people traipse through our yard like it's public property and drop thier trash all over.  They'll want to sit in front of our house to watch the parade, too.  If they think I'm staying in my house on parade day, they've got another thing coming.  Not too many things make me mad, but this is one of them.  Who needs their stupid festival anyway?!

  5. This is an outrage! Here's what let's do. First let Mom try to fix it. If she can, then that's fine. If she can't, then ask her to take some photos of you being excluded from this event that's taking place right in your front yard for all practical pawposes and let us know who to blog about. We'll have a blogswarm about this and maybe at least manage to embarass someone.

    grrr, Lola

  6. Well now personally, I don't see a DOG in da above pikture. All I see is one magnificent greyhound. Now I'm liking Lola's idea but I would take piktures and then send them to your local newspaper and then maybe da new station too.
see, I told you to meet me at da train station...hehehe!
Can you PLEASE keep us updated on this stoopid "law"...I haves to know if your mom can do sumptin.

  12. WHAT THE EFF????

Just for that...make sure you leave lots of LAND MINES right near the curb (in your yard) so people will stay the hell away.

This ranks up at the top of the list of stupidity!

Stick it to The Man, Bunny!!!!

    Good luck!

  13. How can dogs not be allowed? As long as it's not an enclosed area, I don't see how they can 'not allow' dogs.

  14. Time to put up signs in your yard saying "No People Allowed".

  15. What? WHAT???? That's the Most Ridiculous, Stupidest, Outrage-iest thing I have ever, ever heard in my whole entire life! They can't keeps you from being outside on you OWN PROPERTY! It's YOUR property, for bark's sake. I don't think that policeman knew what he was talking about. He was prolly just jealous of all the attentions you were getting.

Mama says let her know if there is someone we can email to protest!!

  21. Sheesh! That's just WRONG! I think that we pups should be able to accompany our humans anywhere. All our silly midwestern states need to take some cues from the folks in California & loosen up the dog rules!

  28. Most of the festivals in this area are in our county seat and dogs are not allowed there either (except for the dog walk!). As dog friendly as the area is, there have been a lot of complaints about the rules. Worse for me is that tourists - who make up the majority of attendees - are pretty limited about their choices with the dogs that accompany them. Leaving them in their cars would be horrific, so it seems we lessen attendance at the festivals by the silly rules.

Funny, our local all-breed rescue was set up as an official vendor at one festival. They could bring cats, but not dogs. As a rescue and an official vendor, they could not bring dogs, but could bring cats. The rule is mystifying.

  31. Legally they can not keep you from being in your own yard. I know festivals here generally are off limits to dogs and I think cats too. They allow birds - who do poop anywhere. Have you ever seen a human trained to pick up after a bird! The story about not allowing dogs into the rescue exhibit - that was sad.
As for people walking through your yard and dropping trash, those would be the days I'd encourage NOT picking up the dog poop, and maybe posting a sign about using a camera to watch trashy people. What's happened to respect. (and maybe invest in an airhorn)
