Thank Heaven For Shelters -- Pedigree Adoption Drive

We'd like to take a few minutes today to say how thankful we are for animal welfare shelters and rescue organizations.  Without rescue groups, none of the Greyhounds who have blessed our lives would have been with us.  When we went to the annual QCGA reunion on Saturday, every Greyhound there owed a debt to the group for taking them in and caring for them until they could be adopted.  It was really heartwarming to see so many happy dogs and humans there all together celebrating what had brought them together.

Of course, one of the biggest struggles any shelter or adoption group faces is feeding the dogs that they take in.  There are other expenses that are incurred as well, and adoption fees in no way cover all the expenses that these groups put out to take care of the dogs in their program.  So, today, we'd like you to take a minute to help with the Pedigree Adoption Drive.
•Each year, more than 4 million dogs end up in shelters and breed rescue organizations. Pedigree created The PEDIGREE Adoption Drive to help shine a spotlight on the plight of these homeless dogs.

•This year the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive is raising awareness for homeless dogs by donating a bowl of food to shelter dogs for everyone who becomes a “Fan” or “Likes” The PEDIGREE Adoption Drive on Facebook. So far more than 1 million bowls have been donated.

•Special for BlogPaws West: For each blog that posts about the PEDIGREE® Adoption Drive through September 19th, PEDIGREE® will donate a bag of their new Healthy Longevity Food for Dogs to shelters nationwide. It’s simple: Write a post, help a dog.

•Thursday, September 16 through Sunday, September 19, the Pedigree BlogPaws bloggers will host a Blog Hop, to help raise awareness for the “Write a post, help a dog” effort.

If you'd like to join, copy the bullet points above and share them on your blog.  It can be any blog, not just one related to dogs or pets.  So, anybody who would like to join, please do.  After you write your post, head over to Life With Dogs and leave a link to your post.  Lots of hungry dogs waiting in shelters will thank you for it!

  7. Thanks for telling us about this! What a great idea...

So, is Bunny about to be fed with a fork or is she just being a saint by not attacking that plate of food?

You asked if R might have diabetes. Yes, but not the traditional kind. Diabetes insipidis is the form that we'll be trying to rule out assuming that today's ultrasound turns out OK. Diabetes insipidis is rare but controllable.

And, yes, I'd be super grateful if you could send along a link (or two) for those muzzle attachments (kynabear5 at gmail)... And, if you know of a great site for buying muzzles themselves, that would be great. K's snoot is a little too short for many muzzles so I plan to try to find a better-fitting one before next mushroom season.

    Thanks!
