A Case Of Mistaken Baths

Bunny here, and I am writing that I am just mad.  Dad did something so heinous and dastardly that I may not be able to forgive him.

It all started the other evening after our walk.  I went over to Dad to make sure he got some time to pet me.  He did pet me and I was really enjoying it.  Then suddenly, he stopped.  He stared at me and started digging at my fur.  Mom asked him what was wrong, being very concerned that I had some sort of injury.

Dad:  Do you have any alcohol?  Bunny's got (insert dramatic voice drop here) FLEAS!

Mom:  Fleas?!

Me:  No!  It can't be!

Dad:  Yes, I see four of them right here on her back.

Mom:  (spoken from the bathroom as she digs through the shampoos and first aid stuff)  I know what happened!  They were shaving a dog in the back room when we went to the vet the other day.  They said she had tons of fleas.

Me:  The HORROR!

Dad:  Well, that's just great!

Mom:  We'll have to treat them all!  Can you go to the vet's office in the morning and pick up the Frontline?  We should give them all baths!

Me:  BATHS?!  Now wait just a minute!

At this point, Dad was dragging me into the bathroom while Mom was selecting which shampoo to use.  I gazed pleadingly at Mom and leaned against her.  Then she burst out laughing as she looked at me.  That was NOT the reaction I was going for!

Mom:  She doesn't have fleas!  She rolled in the dirt!

Dad:  What?

Mom:  Look, it's just flecks of dirt!

Dad:  I could have sworn it was moving...

Me:  Hallelujah!  Mom, I love you!

I thought that was the end of it and that I was spared the horrors of having had fleas on my most precious canine self and that I was free from the impending doom of the bath.  It turns out I was only right about one of them.  Dad lured me into the bathroom and gave me a bath anyway!  Life is so unfair sometimes.  I am sleeping on Mom's side of the bed from now on.  Dad is completely getting shunned.

  3. What an alarming story. Hey! At least dad is looking out for you. Those flea things are very bad. I use Frontline, but I heard that sometimes greyhounds cannot because you are so sensitive.

  4. Bunny, we think your Dad was very bad bathing you anyway when it was only flecks of dirt!
You have to introduce him to waterless shampoos.
We use the furminator one which is sprayed on and then left to dry.
Then you have a most relaxing comb with the furminator and all the dirt just comes right out!
So much more acceptable than water......well unless it is muddy water outside of course....that is a completely different story!

  5. The horror, the horror! We Siberians clean up pretty well, so we do not get baths often. But there is a conversation about a spring grooming session coming as soon as the weather is warm enough. Something about us starting to blow coat and all. We are praying for more winter.

  7. Sawry about the terrible drama going on over there and you being in the middle of it all too. And... to add insult to injury when you weren't asking for any trouble, they dump you in the tub. Hope you've recovered by now, pretty girl!

  9. I think your Dad was replaced by aliens. It had to be an imposter because your real Dad would never do such a horrible thing! Good thing your Mom is there to snuggle with. Tell her to keep an eye on that guy, ok?

  13. Bunny, I am Most Mortified to read about this. There you were, minding your own Bunny business and then..... Oh, and you might wants to have your dad's eyes checked to prevent any further "misunderstandings" in the future.

  18. My dogs are quivering with fear. I went over to pet one of them, and he fled, saying "you might think that I have fleas, and then I'll have to have a bath like Bunny did"!

At least it's all over. Your dad is trying to be good to you... I promise. Perhaps you should stop shunning him!

BTW, that Dogs and Cogs jersey is on close-out. They're not making it anymore next year from what I hear...
