It turns out that Lilac having a birthday has been good to all of us. Monday we got a box in the mail from the one and only Miss Diane at Burpdog Biscuits. If you have never tasted the splendor of a Burpdog biscuit or cake, my friends, you are truly missing out! I don't know what her secret ingredient is, but it's like canine crack. She makes these treats for a lot of Greyhounds in her secret kitchen and they are the best treats you'll ever taste. Well, anyroo, she sent us cake for Lilac's fifteenth birthday. Mom put the cake in the refrigerator and we immediately began stalking the door. They are that good!
Well, Mom said we'd save the cakes and share the birthday party with our friend DJ since he and his mom were coming over to our house that night before Mom and I left with them for our trip to the beach. I waited in anticipation all day Tuesday for their arrival and for the cake.
DJ finally got there, we traded sniffs and got to know each other. Morgan was trying to get him to play with her, but the rest of us had settled in. So, Dad got out the cake. It was a Burpdog bonanza! Blueberry ran into the crate and inhaled hers. I took mine to a dog bed and soon reduced it to crumbs. Lilac savored hers, but didn't waste any time with it. Morgan's was gone in one bite.
Then it happened. He got up and went to the kitchen for a drink and Morgan sprang into action. That cake was in her giant maw in no time! She ran over and started to eat it, and she shared a few crumbs with me. Dad rescued a big bite of it and gave it to DJ, but he left it on the dog bed where it was nabbed again by Morgan.
I'm sorry DJ lost out because that cake was delicious! It was also, obviously, irresistable! At least it didn't go to waste.
Hey there everybody...
ReplyDeleteGeesh I had fun reading this post of yours! Happy (belated) Birthday to Lilac! That cake sounds like it is a dog's delight...and I love the name, LOL!

Sending lotsaluv

We are positively drooling over here in Scotland. How wonderful to have cake and Morgan, are you sure you are not a basset in disguise?

Can't blame you for nabbing the cake when DJ walked away from it:)
ReplyDeleteWe'd show that cake the insides of our tummies too!!

Morgan, we don't blame you for snagging DJ's piece! The rule in our house is "you snooze, you loose". It's only a doggie rule. Lilac's birthday just keeps on going!
ReplyDeleteDrools and licks,
Minnie and Mack
That cake must be something else. I'm sorry DJ didn't know to eat his, but at least it didn't go to waste.
ReplyDeletelotsa licks, Lola
Bunny, you and Lilac are way too polite!!!
ReplyDeleteBut we can't blame Morgan either, she's young and the cake was just too irresistible!!!
Blame the cake : )
Bunny-
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like some wonderful cake you ladies had! What manners you and Lilac have! Our dogs have very few social skills when it comes to food. Why the other day I had found a piece of popcorn and was batting it about very merrily when it rolled in front of a black lab snout.
Needless to say my popcorn was gone. *Sighs*

Snooze you lose is right! I prolly would have done da same thing Morgan did... :)
ReplyDeleteWoofs and Licks,

ReplyDeleteYour pal, Pip
Khount me in on the snoozin' and losin' group!

Hey, Bunny! Mom always gives everyone a fair chance at whatever special treat is before us, but if you just aren't interested, well... all's fair in love and treats! I'm sure DJ was just feeling a little nervous. George wouldn't touch his ice cream for my gotcha-day party. His birthday is coming up, though, so hopefully he'll eat it then!

Oh, P.S. Thanks for the plug for my blog. That was very sweet!
I love the name of that company - too cute - I will have to check them out!
ReplyDeleteI love that Lilac is still celebrating her birthday - that sweet gal deserves it!
Oh, DJ is SOOOO handsome! I just luvs his most beautiful brindle furs! They remind me of somebuddy.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm...
I can't believes he didn't want to eat his cake. MAYBE he's really selfless and he really just wanted all of you to have it. I bet that was it. It prolly made him feel real good that Morgan enjoyed it so much.

Well I guess DJ went with the old saying... Ladies before Gentlemen... butt I think he should have saved a bite for himself. It must have been Delish!!
ReplyDeleteCanine crack! Girls, you had better be careful, that's dangerous stuff!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I'm glad that the pack had such a wonderful birthday cake for the grand dame, Lilac. Happy Birthday Lilac! (Lilac - you need to teach Morgan some manners, OK?).
Hehehehe, I see Morgan standing there with that look of anticipashun wating fur her winder of opportoonity... She is such a shepherd!
ReplyDeleteUmmm, Bunny, I do love the collar!
ReplyDeleteUh hellos....where my piece? I brought da beer.
ReplyDeletePoor DJ...I bet he just had never seen a hairy Grey Hound befores.
Puddles
Awww..poor DJ. But I guess you can't blame Morgan because he just couldn't contain himself from something that tasted so good:)
ReplyDeleteSounds like DJ needs to be introduced to cake more often!!
ReplyDeleteYou all look so nice in your photos!
Sounds delish!!!!!! Mmm I hope my mom makes a cake for me someday!
ReplyDelete-Corbin
Wow - we're drooling over here just reading about that cake!
ReplyDeleteThe Road Dogs
DJ sounds a lot like Phantom, not sure about something new. TD and Ciara would have been just like Morgan. We need to paw at Mom now to get some burpdog goodies for us too.
ReplyDeleteWoos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara
Sounds like DJ doesn't have a sweet tooth!
ReplyDeleteNommy nom!! You snooze, you lose, DJ. Happy birthday to Lilac!!
ReplyDeleteMan those sound delicious!
ReplyDeleteNubbin wiggles,
Oskar
HAHA.. that's a smart lil Morgan.. and fast too :) Hope you'll have a good trip with Bunny. Have loads of fun.
ReplyDeleteHaaa! Sorry for DJ!
ReplyDeleteSure the cake was yummilicious!
Kisses and hugs

I am laughing because any piece of food not immediately inhaled around here is subject to canine theft - unless it belongs to Queen Natasha. She is quite clear that no dog should even think about it.
ReplyDeleteEven the name sounds nommy! That DJ sure is handsome with his stripes but methinks a few short of a six pack letting some girl steal his cake.
ReplyDeleteSlobbers,
mango
Morgan! you're just like Lala.... if i leave a nibble aside even for a second, poof. It's gone and believed to be in here tummy!
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Barkday!!!!!
hugs & smoochies!! XOXO
Hailey
you go, miss morgan! i totally would have snarfed DJ's cake, too. i can't believe he wanted to wait that long to eat it in the first place!
