Let Them Eat Cake

Bunny here at the keyboard sharing some of our fun from Tuesday night.

It turns out that Lilac having a birthday has been good to all of us.  Monday we got a box in the mail from the one and only Miss Diane at Burpdog Biscuits.  If you have never tasted the splendor of a Burpdog biscuit or cake, my friends, you are truly missing out!   I don't know what her secret ingredient is, but it's like canine crack.  She makes these treats for a lot of Greyhounds in her secret kitchen and they are the best treats you'll ever taste.  Well, anyroo, she sent us cake for Lilac's fifteenth birthday.  Mom put the cake in the refrigerator and we immediately began stalking the door.  They are that good!

Well, Mom said we'd save the cakes and share the birthday party with our friend DJ since he and his mom were coming over to our house that night before Mom and I left with them for our trip to the beach.  I waited in anticipation all day Tuesday for their arrival and for the cake.

DJ finally got there, we traded sniffs and got to know each other.  Morgan was trying to get him to play with her, but the rest of us had settled in.  So, Dad got out the cake.  It was a Burpdog bonanza!  Blueberry ran into the crate and inhaled hers.  I took mine to a dog bed and soon reduced it to crumbs.  Lilac savored hers, but didn't waste any time with it.  Morgan's was gone in one bite.

However, DJ didn't seem to quite know what to do with his.  I wanted to help him with it.  Mom said that it belonged to him and that I had to leave it alone.  So, I tried to restrain myself.

Then it happened.  He got up and went to the kitchen for a drink and Morgan sprang into action.  That cake was in her giant maw in no time!  She ran over and started to eat it, and she shared a few crumbs with me.  Dad rescued a big bite of it and gave it to DJ, but he left it on the dog bed where it was nabbed again by Morgan.

I'm sorry DJ lost out because that cake was delicious!  It was also, obviously, irresistable!  At least it didn't go to waste.

  5. Morgan, we don't blame you for snagging DJ's piece! The rule in our house is "you snooze, you loose". It's only a doggie rule. Lilac's birthday just keeps on going!

  8. Bunny-

It sounds like some wonderful cake you ladies had! What manners you and Lilac have! Our dogs have very few social skills when it comes to food. Why the other day I had found a piece of popcorn and was batting it about very merrily when it rolled in front of a black lab snout.

Needless to say my popcorn was gone. *Sighs*

  12. Hey, Bunny! Mom always gives everyone a fair chance at whatever special treat is before us, but if you just aren't interested, well... all's fair in love and treats! I'm sure DJ was just feeling a little nervous. George wouldn't touch his ice cream for my gotcha-day party. His birthday is coming up, though, so hopefully he'll eat it then!

  14. Oh, DJ is SOOOO handsome! I just luvs his most beautiful brindle furs! They remind me of somebuddy.
    Hmmmmm...

I can't believes he didn't want to eat his cake. MAYBE he's really selfless and he really just wanted all of you to have it. I bet that was it. It prolly made him feel real good that Morgan enjoyed it so much.

Seriously, I'm glad that the pack had such a wonderful birthday cake for the grand dame, Lilac. Happy Birthday Lilac! (Lilac - you need to teach Morgan some manners, OK?).

  30. I am laughing because any piece of food not immediately inhaled around here is subject to canine theft - unless it belongs to Queen Natasha. She is quite clear that no dog should even think about it.

  31. Even the name sounds nommy! That DJ sure is handsome with his stripes but methinks a few short of a six pack letting some girl steal his cake.
