Sweet Surprises

I have mentioned before that Bunny sleeps on our bed with us.  Treat, our first Greyhound, decided that it was a good way to fight off the Winter chill, and I was surprised and secretly, a little elated when Bunny decided that she wanted to sleep up there with us on the very first night she was here.  There are some nights that she chooses to sleep on the couch or a dog bed, at least initially, but almost every morning, I wake up to find her curled up between us on the bed.

Saturday morning I woke up early, even though the alarm was turned off.  I laid there for a moment before trying to turn and look at the alarm clock to figure out what time it was.  That's when I realized Bunny was asleep with her head right on my shoulder.

I'm not sure when she decided that it was the place to curl up.  She was sleeping on Mr. Taleteller's side of the bed under his quilt when I fell asleep.  It's not the first time I've woken up to find her sleeping close to me, but it was the first time I've woken with her head resting perfectly on my shoulder.

Of course, when I started to wake up, she had ideas that I should pet her.  That velvet fur of hers is hard to resist.  Even though it's so hypnotic to lay under the covers and start dozing off until she rolls her little head over on me and makes sure I stay awake and keep petting her, it's still about the most wonderful wake up I can think of.  I didn't even mind that I was awake that early on a Saturday.

It's just nice to wake up to that kind of trust and adoration in such a sweet way sometimes.  This weekend promises to be extremely busy for us.  I'll be wishing I was back under the covers with her the whole time I'm at all the family Christmas parties, that's for sure!

  2. I loved reading this because it reminded me of when I first got my greyhound cross as a rescue. He was very unsure of us and quite nervous but after a few days he climbed onto the sofa with me and fell asleep resting his head on my shoulder. I thought ahhh now he is beginning to trust us :)

  6. What a sweetie - the only time any of us get to sleep on the bed is if Dad is away.

  7. Too cute! Bella got cold last night so at some point hopped up and I woke up to her curled up in a tiny ball with her nose under her paw.

By the way, I gave in to temptation and ordered a Nook cover from Oberon Designs. Amazing - I had a hard time deciding!!

  10. K does exactly that same thing, every single night. First, when we get into bed, she starts at the foot of the bed. Then, when I turn out the light, she crawls upward, puts her head on my shoulder, and lets out a big sigh of contentment.

You described it so wonderfully! It *is* hard to get out of bed when you've got silky fur next to you to stroke... And, with our crazy social schedule this week, I'll be wishing for the same thing as you! It'll be our little secret...

  12. awwee... i love to nap with dogs... but i don't like sleeping the night with them. i have so many back issues that it would drive me insane. (or the dogs). but we occasionally nap together on the bed and it is heavenly with their bodies next to ours... or their backs against my back. doggie snuggles! ya to make up for all those holiday "obligations!"

  13. Awww! I often nap with my dog on the couch. In fact, last night I fell asleep at eight-thirty with Shiva curled up beside me on my blanket. There is something about the warmth of a dog that makes me very sleepy.

  14. Dennis's favorite place to sleep is under the covers right between my knees. It works out pretty well except for when he stretches unexpectedly.

  15. Cooper and Lola always sleeps with me at night. The best feeling in the world is when cooper is under the covers back to back with me...I always feel so safe when he does that!

  16. So sweet. And we thought we had a bed full with 3 bassets. Winston sleeps between my husband and me every night (has his own pillow). Amiee sleeps at the end of the bed and usually Cleo claimes the couch. But we only have a queen size bed so we really get to snuggle. :) The HoundDogs and HDM

  23. Hey Bunny!
Great job! It's very important to keep our peeps warm and cozy at night. I've tried really hard to convince Mom & Dad of this fact, but so far it is a rare treat for me to get some cuddle time in bed. It is the VERY BEST! I try to make it extra special so they'll do it more often. Obviously, your peeps have this all figured out and know the best things in life!
BTW: Say hi to Blueberry...hope she's feeling good.

  28. The Momster had that kind of week this week and the real madness is yet to come next week. We wish some humans here would give us a chance to show them how wonderful it feels to wake up with a soft furry head on their shoulders:)

  29. It's probably nice to have her in bed since it's been so cold out; we need all the heat we can get.

  30. The first night that Larry & Eagle moved in with us, I had to get up and powder my nose. I came back to a bed with Eagle standing by my pillow. I was committed to not having the dogs sleep with us so I shooed her off. We later found out that she slept with her previous owners, but Larry never did. Fast forward many months.. .. Eagle decided to try to get on the bed again. She jumped up and we cuddled. It was so lovely!

While she doesn't always start out in bed, she's always there in the morning. I agree that cuddling with a greyhound is a greyt way to wake up! Monica

  33. The bestest thing in the world is waking up cuddling with mom and dad in bed. Then I lay on some Yoda smooches and it's perfect!

  34. Treasure every moment with her. Macy actually slept in the bed with us for a while on Thursday night for the first time. Maybe she knew things were different and she just wanted some extra comfort. I'll never know, but I would give anything to have her back in bed with us again!

  35. While Joy starts out in our bed and moves on after the lights go out, Red always sleeps in bed with us. She is our little cuddle-bug. I love waking up with her on days off from work when we can just stay snuggled together with her head on my chest.

  36. I love when it's just me and mom. When dad leaves I get in his spot, put my head on his pillow and curl up next to mom. Mom loves it UNLESS she has to get up! Then it's not fair!!
