Well, to top things off this week with our run of bad luck, Lilac decided that this week would be a good one to start having our late night chats again. I love a lot of things about her, like how she came over to me yesterday evening when I got home from work and let me know she'd missed me by leaning against me and burying her head against my chest, but her barking out her demands is not one of her most endearing traits. This is especially true at oh dark thirty in the morning. Even roosters can't take her schedule. Lately, she's decided to skip her less demanding pleas for attention, like whining and the cold nose poke in the back and gone straight to demanding barks.
Lilac: Get up, dammit!
Me: Wha...?
Lilac: I said now!
Me: Do you know what time it is?
Lilac: I'm a dog. I don't concern myself with human conventions like time.
Me: Apparently not.
Lilac: I'm waiting!
Me: I have NO idea what you want at this hour!
Lilac: (pant, pant) How can you not know?
Me: Um, because I'm not a dog?
Lilac: That is obvious!
Me: Can you not just tell me what you want?
Lilac: You're supposed to know!
Me: Well, I don't. So, just tell me what it is!
Lilac: I forgot.
Me: You forgot?! Then it couldn't have been that important!
Lilac: I am sure that it was very important, and it's your job to remember it! I'm old, dammit!
Me: Actually, I need to get some sleep so I can go to my job and earn money to buy you stuff. So, I'll talk to you about this later.
Lilac: Hmph!
So, the next night we decided to try an experiment. We brought her bed in, fluffed the pillows in the artful way she seems to prefer, and then brought her fan into the bedroom. The fan was plugged in and aimed right at her highness. We all had a much better night's sleep. It's amazing the things we'll do for love, a few hours sleep, or both!

Maybe she needs a stay at Khamp Khyra -
ReplyDeleteWe don't start our day at dark thirty anything!
Hugz&Khysses,
Khyra
With sweet looks like that why can't a girl demand attention in the wee hours?
ReplyDeleteWell, it probably is about being old. My humans are pretty old and there's lots of getting up and down all night and I don't know if they're sure why either. If none of them went to work I think the hours would be quite irregular around here. Still, Alpha Mom doesn't go along with my idea that 4:30 AM is the pawfect time for rise and shine. She likes to sleep in until almost 6.
ReplyDeletelotsa licks, Lola
My Dogness!Getting up at dark thirty anything is unthinkable.we are much better at staying up than getting Up!!pretty owlish family.even 6 AM as suggested by Lola is too early here!!and besides nowadays mummy keeps wondering if our household has watchdawgs or watchhumans!!
ReplyDeleteThankyou dear Bunny and Carrie for your kind words. they mean a lot to us at this time.we are hoping Mummy will heal faster with you guys around to brighten her days.
lots a luv,
Gin n Bud
At least you`ve dicovered what it is that she seems to want! Maybe your sleep will be less interrupted now? She looks very contented. =)
ReplyDeleteThat's funny! I must admit I like to wake Mama and Papa up at very odd hours, usually when I need a lift up on the bed. I prefer a bark/cough, works every time.
ReplyDeleteYour pal, Pip
Well, if we told the two leggers EVERYTHING... what would they have to DISCOVER?
ReplyDeleteWE are fortunate - no barkers here. Ok, so sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with a crushing pressure in my chest and the inability to breathe - only to find Natasha sitting on my chest and staring at me. But at least she doesn't bark.
ReplyDeleteLucky girl! Eva has a fan on her 24/7, but then she's a thick coated sheltie!
ReplyDeleteOh, Max is now totally in love with Lilac! A doggie after his own heart - he adores having late night chats and can't understand this 'wait until the morning' philosophy. Schnauzer snuggles - JD and Max.
ReplyDeleteThe personal fan - we know it well. Our late Java Bean had one.
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Lilly, Piper, Carrleigh and Ruairi
Oh Lilac....well, old dogs needs their rights too :) Maybe if you call the barking a need to check if her family is still alive, you'll feel better about it. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a precocious girl you have there! I love it!
ReplyDeleteLilac may be old, but she sure knows who to go to :)... and the personal fan is a plus on a hot summer night.
ReplyDeleteLicks, hero
You can borrow my translation device if you want.
ReplyDeleteAhh... a personal fan! Lilac is a smart girl!! BTW - have you ever talked with your vet about melatonin? As Ginger got older, my vet recommended it to help with her sleeping patterns and reduce the onset of senility. (Sounds crazy but we did notice an improvement!)
ReplyDeleteIt's good to catch up with old friends, isn't it? Even if that means having her bark at you in the wee hours of the morning. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou sure do have smart owners :-) !
ReplyDeleteYour buddy,
Bocci
BOL..ahh..we love your purse and beautiful bed. we see it has central air.
ReplyDeleteHave a fun day

ReplyDeleteMum gets up at bout 4:00 am (don't ask why, she's weird and don't even work)but hers won't get me and sissy up til 5:30. And believe me, da chit chatting at dat hour is just so much more fun.
Puddles
Guess she managed to get her message across:) Yes, amazing what the humans will do for us beloved pets.

What a beautiful girl, and who wouldn't want to sleep near Mom with her own fan and favorite pillow! You go, Lilac ;-)

Oh Lilac...do I have a man for you!!! Bilbo has been at it Thursday and Friday night. He seems a little more settled today so we are keeping our fingers crossed for a quiet night.

ReplyDeleteFace Licks
Charneka
She forgot what she wanted to tell you and then you knew what she wanted to tell you!
ReplyDeleteGood job!
Happy Saturday!
Kisses and hugs
Lorenza
Glad you were able to find a good compromise!
ReplyDeletePoor Lilac (and everyone else in the house), but I totally understand. It has been too hot and humid of late to sleep comfortably. BTW, hope you didn't get flooded out from the rain that went through tonight.
ReplyDelete..haha.. i enjoyed your conversations with Lilac... you both are amazing... and O, it's only now i have fully recognized that Lilac has a very deep, wonderful eyes... great...great...great!!!:)
ReplyDeleteThanks a ton for all the understanding you extend to me... for all my excuses and absences... God Bless!!!:)
Keep safe!!:)

Dang, I just lost my comment. Our dog S did almost exactly the same vocal demanding, and when he got old, he started it at O dark hundred. Our vet asked us a bunch of questions and thought that an anti-senility drug (anipryl...spelling?) might help. It did help both with the late night chats and some worrisome wandering.
ReplyDeleteI love Miss Lilac and when you tell us her storie!
BTW, Bee Balm is the same as Horsemint. It must love very specific conditions because it flourishes in huge patches of meadows, and then there's none 50 yards away... I hope that you can grow it!
I found you through the Saturday Blog Hop. I love your blog and am now a follower! I am the owner of a Pomeranian named Koda. If you have time come check out my blog about my Pom and Handmade Pet Products. http://www.luckypupspetsupplies.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThank you!
It looks like the humans finally figured it out, right Lilac. And they wonder why we have to demand bark. Trying listening!!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from the blog hop. Come see us at:

ReplyDeleteDear Lilac,
ReplyDeleteWe sleep with the fan blowing on us too. It is the only way the humans get a good night sleep, or so they tell us.
the Ridlon pack
I bet you don't sleep well when you are hot either.....even worse when you are on a hard bed! I say Lilac has every right to wake you up at dog thirty ;o)
ReplyDeleteSnuggles,
Twix
The same thing happens here. I love the "I forgot" part - too true! Brutus now has his own fan in the car, to help keep him cooler back there in his booster seat and harness. The things we'll do for these pups to make them happy (and QUIET!!). LOL

ReplyDeleteIt's about time mom figured out you were not comfortable! Geez- of course a cool breeze and floofed pillow is what you wanted. Maybe I'll buy an instruction manual for mom.
