There's No Accounting For Taste

Bunny here, enjoying possession of the couch while I write my lastest entry.

I am perplexed by something here at our house.  Since Morgan came home, the crate has been set up in the living room again.  It used to be set up in here before Hawk passed away, because he had to stay in there during the day while Mom and Dad were gone, but after he left us, they took the crate down and gave us some more space here in the living room.

When I first came home, I had to spend my days in the crate until I proved that I would go potty outside and that I could get along with the other hounds here.  That didn't take me too long, and once I got out of that crate, I never looked back!  I much prefer the couch or the dog bed, thank you very much!

While Mom and Dad are making sure everyone can get along, Morgan goes in her crate when they have to leave the house.  Except, half the time, she can't get in there.  You might be scratching your head or behind your ear and wondering why.  Well, it's because Lilac and Blueberry keep taking over the crate!  I've never seen anything like it.  As soon as they can, they all keep sneaking in that crate to sleep.  Has the world gone mad?  I don't see why any dog would want to sleep in there when there's a perfectly good couch sitting right in front of the television and sunshine spot from the window.

Here's what I have to say about that.  They can all play musical dog crates!  I will be over here snoozing on the couch like the companion to royalty that I was born to be.

  1. Hahaha! If only they had the sense of purpose that you did they would realize they clearly belong on the couch!

  2. Could be the coziness of a confined space that attracts them to the cage... but you sure know how to live the good life, Bunny.

  3. HRH Ms. Bunny,

Maybe your sisters are wanting their own "defined" space.

Our Sophie never wanted anything to do with that crate after coming to live with us. She loved her plushy cushions. However, she did find her solitude/safety/comfort in the master bedroom closet whenever the wind blew strong or the storms came rolling through.

Now, shouldn't Mr. Taleteller be standing next to the couch, fanning you with a huge palm leaf?

  4. Wonder what is going on with that crate. Possibly mystical powers methinks. You will do best to steer clear lest you fall under its spell.

  5. I guess that's why you're the one with the blog, Bunny. You're the smartest. And you get the couch to yourself until the rest of them get over Crate-mania.

  6. We aren't going to be much help today. While we all have a favorite couch or chair, we also like our crates. go figure.

  7. We're the same way - when Mom can't find us during the day, she checks out crates and there we are. Lilly, the queen, even opts for the crate sometime.

Please, Bunny needs no help with ideas.

  9. Bunny - just keep in control of that couch and all will be well! The cats and I have a similar battle during the day. They think they own the couch and the bed, etc.

  11. OMD, I go away for a short period and I missed you getting a wonderful new family member. I had to go back to find out who "Morgan" was! I'm so excited for you and Mr. Taleteller. You two are definitely outnumbered by the 4-legged furry guys now!

I love the story of the crate. Our dog R still uses a crate when we're gone for longish time periods but both he and K believe that our bed is THE place to be if given a choice. In fact, R randomly decided to go in his crate last night, and I literally checked to see if he looked sick or something. That's how odd it is. So, they agree with Bunny!

Very funny that Lilac and Blueberry want to claim Morgan's crate - kinda like a group of young kids who want whatever the other has :)

  12. Too funny! Oh how I wish Brutus would do that (he really hates being in a crate, has a hard time relaxing in there). Maybe your girls could come over and demonstrate for him?

  13. Maybe the heat has gotten to them! We don't like having to stay in a crate, and being the spoiled fella that we are we haven't slept in a crate for several years :)

  15. Even though Mr. B has his teepee, he still likes to go in Miss M's crate sometimes. And of course, Miss M has to go into Wilma's crate all the time just because it's something new and Miss M must "own" all the new things in the house.

  16. Puffy always preferred going in the crate to snooze. I think he felt it was his little den. I don't dislike my crate, but won't nap in there at all. After Puffy shuffled off his mortal coil, I'd go in his crate sometimes and just sit. Not to nap though. Just sit and wonder where he was. Or wait for him to come back. SHE would get sad, so she moved his crate and the furniture. Now all the crates are in another bedroom...just in case she says. Just in case what? That's the question of the day.

Anyways....I prefer the sofa like you. Especially the one that looks out the back where the squirrelies live.

  17. miss bunny,
i totally agree with you! i'd pick the comfy cozy couch over the crate any day of the year, especially if you've got good squirrel views! now my big sis asa, she would enjoy the couch, but she likes the secure feeling that the crate gives her, too.

  18. Bunny,
I cannot imagine choosing the crate over the couch. I am not allowed on the couch but it COMPLETELY boggles my mind that the doggies out there that are allowed on the couch would choose the crate over the couch's loveliness.

  22. I sleeps just like Blueberry in that first picture!! Crate included. I am embarrassed to admit that I love my crate. The door has been off for years but I use it several times a day so mom doesn't have the heart to take it down. Phoenix will use it sometimes but Cali is like you... NEVER!

  25. Hi, Bunny!
I have never had a crate so I really don't know why they prefer it... but I am like you... the couch is the best place for a nice and comfy nap!
