When Art Imitates Life

Usually when packages come in the mail here, they don't have my name on them.  Our postman is very familiar with our dogs' names and recognizes them readily when we go to the post office to pick up packages.  Sadly, they don't know Mr. Taleteller or me by name in there, though.

Imagine my surprise this week when not one, but two packages arrived with my name on them.  One of them was something I ordered a while back, so it wasn't a total surprise.  The second one was a very pleasant surprise that has left a huge smile on my face.

The first one was a bag I ordered to keep my nook in.  For those of you out there who don't know what a nook is, it's an electronic book reader made by Barnes and Noble.  I could write a whole post about it and how much I love it, but I imagine most people's eyes would glaze over.  The thing about it is, once you get the electronic device, you're instantly bitten  by the bug to start accessorizing it.  Mine has a leather cover that I just love, which makes it look more like a book.  It has a nice Celtic Hounds pattern on it and the leather work is truly an art.

However, you can't have a beautiful leather cover and not want to protect it.  A couple of months ago, an online friend had a Greyhound who came down with a mystery illness that had vets and the university vet clinic baffled.  A wonderful vendor, ShopMollyd, I knew through Facebook offered to make bags as a fundraiser.  I wasn't sure if the bag would fit my nook with its case, but I decided to ask.  Brooke was nice enough to look at the site that makes the covers and take all kinds of measurements and ask about color preferences.  I can't say how excited I am about the end result!

For those who are interested, she makes all different breeds of dogs, but Dachshunds and Greyhounds are very near and dear to her heart.  She makes adorable bags, purses, cup sleeves, collars and jewelry.  I'm not affiliated with her in any way, but I know how great it is for dog lovers to find things that match their breed and I thought it was too cute not to share.

My second package came from Suzanne over at Cult of the Greyhound.  She has a photo blog that I just love visiting every day.  She has some of the most photogenic Greyhounds I've ever seen.  She also makes cards with the photographs she takes.  She made a set of notecards for the recent auction to help the Fort Worth sighthounds who were recently seized after being found in deplorable conditions.  Since I didn't win her notecards in the auction, she sent me some of my own.  They are so beautiful, I doubt I'll be able to mail them to anyone!  Most likely we'll frame most of them and put them in the Greyhound room.  It was such a nice surprise to get them, I haven't stopped smiling!

I know there are a few other packages on their way to our house, but those have some dogs' names on them, so I'll just enjoy my little treasure trove while I've got it!

  24. Aren't presents and nice surprises wonderful:-) The cards look way too lovely to use. I don't have a greyhound room, I have 2 rooms Beryl isn't allowed in to as she steals things from them, lol! I hadn't heard of a nook before, I wonder if they've reached New Zealand yet? The case is so well done as is the leather cover.
