Sometimes Public Service Is Its Own Reward

Bunny here, finally able to type at the keyboard.

Well, I'm not going to lie.  I'm feeling a little left out lately.  Lilac and Blueberry both seem to have some kind of understanding with Morgan, but she keeps trying to put my whole head in her mouth and put her paws on my back and I don't like it.  Plus, I got in trouble with Dad when I told her off.   This is really not the way a Greyhound princess is meant to live.

I was really happy last night when Mom got out my perfume, a fancy collar and my harness and told Morgan to go in the crate.  It was time for me to go visit at the nursing home and since Dad had a meeting, that meant that I was the only one going.  My tail wagged for the first time this week.

We arrived at the nursing home and I was ecstatic to see my civilized canine friends there.  It was just wonderful to do a little socializing.   I watched Vinny and Chip do some tricks to entertain the people down in the Alzheimer's wing and Lil had her special stool with her so she could get up high enough to visit with the residents who couldn't bend down to pet her.  Max and Journey were there, too, working the crowd and sharing tail wags.  Everybody, canine and human, was happy to see me and I was glad I went to bring good cheer, because it surely brought me some.   It's funny how that works!

By the time we left, I was feeling much better, until I started thinking about Morgan pouncing on me when we got home.  Then something amazing happened.  Mom turned into Dairy Queen and I got my own strawberry sundae.  It was such a wonderful night.  I wasn't expecting to get ice cream, but Mom said I'd done such a wonderful job visiting that I'd earned it.

The best part was coming home smelling like strawberry sundae when nobody else got any!  I'm glad that Mom remembers that I'm special after all.   Now I just need to get Morgan to understand how one treats royalty.

  2. Oh Bunny, of course you are the most special princess!
We loved your story about your visit to the nursing home and were relieved to see the picture of Lil's stool!
(sorry we have a human with a very strange sense of humour!)
That sundae looked delicious and just for you....see that proves it!
GSD loved putting things whole into their mouths by the way!!!!!!

I was thinking bout your princess status and I think da only logical thing here to do is haves your pawrents build a new wing onto your house...aaaaall fur you...oh and withs an ice creamie dispenser.

  5. I'm glad you had such a nice time and ice cream, too, Bunny. But I'm sad that you're having a hard time adjusting to Morgan's presence in your royal court. It sounds like she likes you - just a little too much and too heartily.

Maybe Dad didn't want you to tell her off for your own good. It depends on how Morgan sees things, too. I was allowed to tell Franklin off and it was the best thing for both of us, BUT, there was never any question that I was the dominant one and he was submissive to me. Therefore, my yelling at him only enforced pack order and there was no danger to anyone and we got things sorted out very fast that way. Morgan probably doesn't know her own strength and she does come from a rather bossy breed. I guess you have to take an different approach with her. It sounds like your Mom is trying to help. Encourage her to keep trying with the special trips and the ice cream. After all, living well is the best revenge.

    lotsa licks, Lola

  6. Well, Bunny, Frankie is sympathising with you because Beryl has taken some of his limelight since arriving 4 months ago. I make sure they each get special time though and neither is left out and he does love his big sister. I'm sure Morgan really loves you too and hey, if you get strawberry sundaes all to yourself you might be getting the best deal after all?

  17. I was just writing about it today, but it is nice when you get to do things by yourself without the other dogs. It must be so much fun to be doing the volunteering work; I'm glad we got to see that.

  18. Poor Bunny! We were almost in tears reading about your plight until we saw the ice cream part. That made us smile really big :)
It sounds like Morgan is a "Shepherd in a Greyhound Shop" and needs to learn the intricacies of walking amongst the delicate Royals. Give her time Bunnny, and keep correcting her! She will learn :) And if you continue to have problems you can always come and live with us!!!

    Kisses,
