Bunny here at the keyboard to tell you about our Saturday hike.
As soon as Mom started getting ready, Blueberry ran to the back door and gave Mom her doe eyes. Mom and Dad immediately caved and said Blueberry could come with us this time. I told Blueberry that I was going to have my Christmas list done by the end of the weekend and that I'd appreciate it if she passed it along to Mom and Dad for me.
Anyroo, we headed off for Kickapoo State Park, but when we got there, the trails were closed for deer hunting. Phooey! So, Dad said there was another place nearby that he read about and we'd go try that one, since it wasn't too far away. We headed over to Forest Glen Preserve, which is actually four nature preserves together in one park. They have Duffin Woods, Forest Glen Seep, Howard's Hollow Seep, Doris L. Westfall Prairie and a twenty two acre savannah restoration area that I don't think has a name.
Mom packed our tummy warmers in her backpack and Blueberry and I were glad she did. It was a chilly day and we were shivering in no time. We got our fleece on and then we were ready to hit the trail. One of the first things we saw was an old fire observation tower. Shawnee, you and your mom might want to look away from the next couple pictures. That's because Mom and Dad left us at the bottom of the tower and climbed all the way up. It was seventy five feet tall. Mom says there was a great view of the Vermillion River from up there and she and Dad said they'd like to come back in the spring to see it again when the river is higher.
Fortunately, it was pretty brisk up there and Mom and Dad didn't stay too long. They collected us and we set out on the trail. We walked down to the Vermillion River and did some exploring. To get down there, we had to climb down the riverbank, which was a little challenging -- well, for Dad it was. He says he needs to find some new hiking shoes that actually have some tread on them. Still, it was worth the trouble to climb down there. We could see wildlife trails along the opposite bank. Actually, we heard a lot of wildlife, too, but we didn't see anything more than a squirrel, unless you count the deer we saw sauntering across the road while we were in the van. There was another family down by the river exploring, and we offered to take their picture all together.
We didn't see any boulders, but I did scale this fallen tree. In my heart, I was climbing boulders for Miss K, though. We're hoping she's feeling better soon.
Morgan, however, had something else in mind. I can't blame her too much. That hill was steep that we had to hike back up. Still, I'd like to point out that we Greyhounds made it up without having to sit down and rest.
Soon it was time to head back. Mom didn't want Blueberry to get too tired. Blueberry was having a grand time and she took it all in stride. She never looked tired on the trail to me. When we got home, it was a different story, though!

There is where that gorgeous pic came from!
ReplyDeletePlease keep up the hikes, they are good for your posts and great for your growing pic collection. Ever wonder how many we have by now? :)
What a fab area you live in. Such fantastic walks.
ReplyDeleteLoving the photos, especially the ones of Morgan, Bunny and Blueberry together and the last one of Blueberry dreaming about her fabby day.
What a beautiful place! The photos are great. Love the tummy warmers, too. Is the river really that brown color in the photo from the fire tower?
ReplyDeleteDrools and licks,
Minnie and Mack :D
Wonderful that Blueberry got to enjoy the outing and did so well. Beautiful coats, ladies!
ReplyDeleteJed & Abby
Glad that Blueberry got to go too. I'm sure she loved being with you all.

Loves and licks to you all xxx

I'm so glad that Blueberry got to go and had a good time, too. I have to tell you, we usually need a nap after a neighborhood walk. Hiking like that would put me out for days. Franklin would probably recover quickly, though.
ReplyDeletelotsa licks, Lola
You know I love a good hike! Bunny, I love the picture of you looking up at the tower - I know you'd try to climb it if you could, girl. And a big woof to Blueberry for making the trek.
ReplyDeleteYour mom and dad went all the way up that fire tower and they wussn't skeered? My mom gets all shaky in the knees. And I dussn't like being tied up at the bottom (altho there be no way she be getting me up a fire tower!) Didn't you think they woz leaving you there fur furever? I usually cry pitifully. Try it sometime.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that Blueberry had a good outing with you all too. She looked great and of course, you and Morgan look fabulous as well.
ReplyDeleteThe hiking place is so beautiful and I do love the tower! Your mom and dad were really brave and went all the way to the top! I doubt whether I would have done the same thing, most probably not. I'm scared of the height!
Oh, furgot to tell you - wozn't it your mom wot almost buyed Greenies the udder day but they woz more eggspensive? I just founded these coopons. They is only good thru this week.

What a beautiful place to hike! I am still so amazed that your dad can find so many excellent trails!
ReplyDeleteThe picture of the 3 of you is outstanding:)
Geez, hope you didn't climb that watch tower - I am most impressed with your climbing that fallen tree. So glad, Blueberry was able to join you.
ReplyDeleteYour pal, Pip
Blueberry is looking great! We think her now looks EXTRA special with her new Beauty Mark on da Head!!!

ReplyDeleteMiss K thinks that balancing on a big slick log like that is every bit as good as a boulder. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOoooh, I have a fire lookout tower like that that is my nemesis. It's near my house and I ride by it. I have never yet had the nerve to climb it. Fear of heights is a very odd thing.
My dogs always say that they're "sleepy" after hikes, but never "tired" because they went as slowly as we did!
I'm so glad that Blueberry could go with you! That's wonderful.
Great family you have!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are very glad that Blueberry was also hiking with you.
You are so lucky! This weekend we stayed at home, the weather was awful ...
Beautiful photos. It looks like you had a wonderful time. I'm glad Blueberry was able to go with you and yes, she should put in a good word for you for Christmas. She seems to be getting everything she wants. I hope she is feeling as good as she looks.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great alternative location. Wouldn't want Bunny to be mistaken for a deer! Glad Blue got out for the hike. They are all looking good!
ReplyDeletehey gorgeous,
ReplyDeletedo come over for your award

What a great hike! And Blueberry did GREAT! We all collapse after hikes too! But the girl shone and so did the others! That was one tall fire tower - your peeps were brave to climb it, but we're certain they had a gorgeous view! Thanks for taking us on your pretty hike - sounds like a beautiful bunch of preserve lands!
ReplyDeleteHugs xoxoxo
Sammie and Avalon
What fun! Although I would have had to go up with mom and dad, or I'd have a spaz fit for being left at the bottom!
ReplyDeleteAnd Morgan wasn't tired, she was just checking the parimeter for zombie squirrels...that's it! :)
I love the fire tower that was cool to see one!
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of all 3 of you girls, so sweet!
We are still sweating from the humidity and heat in Texas!
Looks like so much fun! Where does you mom get your tummy warmers?
ReplyDeleteOh, what a very nice hike! I can't believes you didn't get to go up in that tower, though. That looked fun!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm ever so glad Blueberry went along and had such a good time. Are your coats the same size? Brudder Ranger and me have the same color coats but they're different sizes and sometimes mom takes a looooong time figuring out which is which.

This is a wonderful day out as a family.. Wonderful pictures that you shared with us... we are glad that Blue get to go too. She does look poofed.. but i guess in her heart.. she is most happy. Thanks for sharing your lovely hike with us.
ReplyDeleteAwww... Blueberry looked so cute all tuckered out. I love it when my hounds are tired!
ReplyDeleteBlueberry is a trooper. Perhaps when I get back from Turkey she will go for a ride with me, in my spaceship?
ReplyDeleteYours,
That reminds me of the fire tower that we used to climb at the top of Rondaxe Mountain up in the Adirondacks. I miss the Adirondacks ...
ReplyDeleteGood for Blueberry! It looks like you have so many great places to hike to choose from. I'm jealous. Though thinking about that hill, I'd probably take a break with Morgan for a little while as well.
ReplyDeleteMom just piped up, she wouldn't have gone up there, you can see gaps though the floor.
ReplyDeleteAsta has this on her blog "a tired dog is a happy dog" :) I think that right.
See Yea George xxx
What a fun hike! Glad Blueberry got to come along, too! You girls look very stylish in your pink fleece coats.
ReplyDeleteWhat a brillant hike you all went on and it was wonderful to see Blueberry along too!

Saw my first Greyhound in CH last weekend. We were in a clothing store and so was the hound. We said hello and I thought of you guys. I can see why you have three!
ReplyDeletegreat shots!
Wish we had places like that to hike at around here. We love the picture of the three of you together!
ReplyDeletePugs & Kisses,

I am sure Blueberry enjoyed a lot being there with you!

Aaand a very well deserved nap after that!

What a greyt time you all had! I love your photos! There's nothing like a good, long nap after a day of hiking. :)
ReplyDeleteYou all make hiking look like so much fun - the Momster wishes she were ages younger and could convince the Dadster to go with her. We do too:)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great shot of the three of you together. And sweet dreams, Blueberry.

Thank you for your comment. It means a lot to know that I am not alone. I can't imagine a 15 minute seizure and hope I never see one. I took a video of Mango's one tonight in case I need it to show to the vet and it only lasted one and a half agonizing minutes. I don't remember what they did at the emergency room after his first seizure earlier in the summer. I am going to call my vet in the AM to get some guidance. The saving grace right now is that all of his seizures have happened at night when we are at home. He has been safe on the rug or his bed and hasn't hurt himself.
ReplyDeleteI am very concerned about the upcoming holiday. We are expecting ten people and a visiting dog (I didn't want any dogs but my husband OK'd it). I am going to wait until morning and then try to convince dog people not to bring him.
On the other hand, who knows what is really going on? Mango is always happy to see guests and even though it tires him out, it doesn't seem stressful to him. I don't know. Right now, just hoping to make it through the night without another one.
Mango Momma
sounds like a nice family hike
