Watch Out For That Tree!

Thanksgiving weekend is a crazy time for us, as I'm sure it is for many.  We have two family dinners to go to, thankfully not on the same day, and there's Christmas shopping and getting the house looking festive to do as well.  However, we are still a family with dogs, and some of those younger dogs have needs.  These needs must be met if we to ensure peace and quiet in our home.

Since we were a little too busy to hit the hiking trails this weekend, we decided that before we headed out to get our Christmas tree that we'd take the girls by the dog park so they could stretch their legs and have some fun outside time.  Since it's getting rather brisk here now, and because Saturdays can be rather busy at the dog park, we decided to leave Lilac at home.

It was pretty much a day like any other autumn day when we've gone to the dog park.  There were only two other dogs there when we arrived, and three more came in behind us.  It was a lovely, sunny afternoon.  Of course, the cooler it is, the more Bunny is possessed to run.  The more Bunny is possessed to run, the more intent Morgan and the other dogs, excluding Blueberry, are to chase her.  Bunny loves this game, and this time, she wasn't holding back at all.  She was giving the dogs a true run for their money.

However, we now realize that German Shepherds don't quite run the same way that Greyhounds do.  Of course, that seems to be stating the obvious, but what I mean is, Greyhounds hunt by sight.  Their eyes can see things from a mile away, and that is literally, not an expression.  Bunny runs and turns on a dime based on what her eyes tell her.  She's taking in all the information that her eyes are giving her as she goes.  Morgan, on the other hand, was only watching Bunny as she chased her through the trees.

Yeah, that was a tactical error!  She isn't seriously hurt, and as a matter of fact, she wouldn't even stop playing to let us have a look at it and make sure it was okay.  Ah, our puppy's first battle scar!  A thing to remember!

  1. Actually, maybe Morgan has a plan. Let that Bunny dog run like crazy, then she will be tired. I will stand here in the middle and observe and save my energy for later!

  4. :-( Poor Morgan. We hope she gets better soon!

  5. Morgan, there is something you have to learn from the hound pack though! To use your sight in a more balanced way and sense by your sight more like Bunny!

You still look pretty with that little scar on, hope that thing is healing fast!

  6. Ouch! Bender has had many boo-boos like that because he runs with eyes only for the ball. Barbie has gotten scratched on the legs but there's no way she'd get poked in the face like that cos she'd see it coming. :P

  8. What a great place to run in. I wish we had dog parks like that over here. Bunny you are a great runner.

Thanks for bring back memories of the old George, George, George of the Jungle song. The Lady Of The House loved those cartoons when she was little, she says to tell you. And Bullwinkle and Rocky. We never see them now, she says.

  9. Poor Morgan! It looks like it hurt.

The dog park looks nice. We've only been to a dog park once and it was packed.

  10. Morgan looks like a slug compared to Bunny! Look at her go!

Hey! I read about the Mr. Taleteller bottom incident. Too funny! I suppose it is just as well there are no photos. I know some puppies read your blog.

  11. Poor Morgan - Murray sends lots of kisses!

Bunny can sure run - Murray was shouting 'Run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man' after Bunny (it's one of his favourite phrases from Shrek).

We wish both him and Clive would try and run like that!

    take care

  12. Wow, that is some fast running. Good thing I had my glasses on or it would have just been a blur. Hope Morgan's eye is OK.

  15. Bunny is amazing - she's such a beautiful runner. It's funny to watch Morgan looking almost confused, trying to fathom how to catch the blur! I hope that Morgan's cut isn't bad...

  18. Poor Morgan. Bunny is a beautiful runner. The pics reminded Mom of when they had 2 Sibes & a retired Greyhound. It was fun to watch her run & the Sibes playing with her. she should have had used the video more.

  20. Morgan! It's all good girl! Now you are a SUPER tough Sheppy with a scar. McIver's got a scar too. I don't have a one yet and I am a bit jealous. Does that mean I am wimpy?

  23. Song would love to run with you Bunny.

    Hope Morgan is ok.

  24. Shiva would be an awesome running companion for Bunny. That is exactly how she "plays" at the dog park. She just runs around in wide circles. If other dogs feel like joining in, cool, if not, their loss!

Poor Morgan, though, she just wasn't prepared. Yikes. I hope she heals fast.

    These photos are excellent. :-)

  29. Hey Bunny, Morgan & Blueberry.
Wow, what a fun video! I must get my zooming ability from some other part of my mutt-ness, because I can zoom sorta like Bunny, but just not quite as fast. I don't think I have any greyhound in me though. My shepherd side sympathizes with you, Morgan. That looks like a real ouchie. I'm sending you a healing thought so you'll feel better quick. Love you jacket, Bunny. Very pretty and you are both obviously having fun. Tell Blueberry hello.

  30. Wow Bunny - we LOVE playing chase. JD especially LOVES being chased! So, if Morgan loves chasing and JD loves being chased he thinks him and her would be the perfect couple. (Max is rolling his eyes a little, he he he!) JD would also like to give gentle schnauzer smoochies to Morgan's owie. (Max is now feeling like a gooseberry!) Schnauzer snuggles - JD and Max.

  31. Poor Morgan, not a chance with Bunny! Better she plays with me, I'm not the speed of lightning :)

  32. Woweeeeee! Bunny is super duper fast. Does she ever give Morgan a break and kind of go at half speed? Kitty is pretty athletic and never gives our poor pug Coco a chance. Pretty funny to watch though :)

  39. Glad Morgan is okay - poor thing! Buford is like Bunny...the colder it gets, the crazier he gets! The girls could do without the cold, but it just seems to energize him!

  45. Ouch, Morgan. You gotta work on your tactics to catch a Bunny - and not a tree.

  46. I'm so sorry about Morgan's boo-boo, but thank goodness it wasn't 1/2 inch higher! A scrape on the face is better than an injured eye. Hugs and scritches!!

  48. We totally know what you're talking about! Some of us Shepherds used to play with a doberman. Mom always said that dobermans corner like a porsche and Shepherds corner like a Mack truck! Sorry for the booboo Morgan. Don't fall for those greyhound tricks.
